2003 Rover 75 Saloon
Description
So this car’s been sitting for a bit now — I’ve had it for over two years, just never got around to doing the full overhaul. It’s a 2003 Rover 75, 5-speed manual, 1951cc, 4 doors. Mileage’s at 192,565 — not bad for a car that’s been around this long. The engine’s still solid, actually — I just tried starting it for the first time in two years and was properly stunned. The gearbox was a bit notchy in second, but I think that was clutch-related. I had a new clutch fitted about 12 months before I stopped using it, but it got damaged when I was reversing with a caravan up a hill. So it’s not fully back to normal, and I reckon it needs a new plate at the very least.
It’s SORN’d for years, has the V5, and I’ve kept it well maintained otherwise. Interior’s actually pretty good, but I left the window open one time and it’s dried out now — just needs a wipe down. I don’t remember exactly why I took it off the road — it was due for MOT, needed a service, tyres were worn, and I just bought another car.
I’d planned to bring it back to life, but life got in the way. Now it’s got water damage — the front sills on both sides are holed, so I’ll need welding on those. I even had it trailered when I moved house, but honestly, I just have too much going on. Something has to give.
Tyres and battery are both shot, so it’ll need replacing. It’s got a few extras — electric rear blind, cruise control, rear parking sensors, multi-CD player, a Webasto diesel heater with remote (which lets you heat it up before starting in winter — useful, though it needs a new diesel fuel pump because the tank was corroded), xenon headlights, and a Witter towbar (might be removed if it’s not going to be used much). The dash display is a bit wonky and needs fixing.
It used to get around 50 mpg on long runs, so fuel efficiency wasn’t bad. Needs trailering to move it — no way I’m hauling it on the road. Sold as seen. Spares or repair work possible if someone’s up for it.
It’s not perfect, but I’ve kept it in good hands, and I’m just not sure what to do with it now. If you’re someone who’d actually want to take it on and not just scrap it — I’d love to hear from you. (Yeah, right — but hey, I’m open to it.)
