Teak dining table with eight chairs
Description
This is a solid teak table I’m passing on — it’s actually one of those pieces that just feels like it belongs in a well-made home. My widowed friend bought it when she was getting married, and it was commissioned in South Africa, handcrafted then shipped over. She’s now moving and doesn’t have space for it, so I’m letting it go.It’s a real solid piece — not just teak, but actual, aged teak with a high polish that makes it look almost like it’s glowing. The wood quality is top tier, and I’ve actually talked to someone in the timber trade — he said buying that kind of teak at that level would likely cost several thousand pounds. That’s a bit of a shocker when you think about it.
The table seats 10 comfortably, 12 if you really need to. It comes with eight matching chairs, though they’re not the only ones you’d need to fit it in a room. I’ve tried to take photos, but it’s so shiny it’s hard to capture properly — especially when it’s sitting in her dining room, which is where it’s been for years.
It’s heavy. Very heavy. I’ve already tried moving it once, and it’s not something you can do alone. I’d say it takes at least two strong men, and ideally a third, with a large van or trailer. I’ve used a man with a van who’s available for hire — he was really helpful and I’d recommend him.
It’s being picked up from Sevenoaks, Kent. I don’t know what it’s worth — honestly, who does? — but I’m thinking £855, which is less than 10% of what it originally cost. So it’s not just a table, it’s a piece of history, and I’m just trying to find someone who’ll appreciate it.
If you’ve ever seen a teak table that looks like it’s been used by generations, you’ll know what I mean. It’s not flashy, but it stands out in a room. I’m not sure if I’ll ever see it again.
