Description
Got this old mahogany cabinet from a solicitors office in Chesterfield, Derbyshire — it’s basically a one-of-a-kind thing. The top has a drop-down glazed front that reveals a lined interior with a shelf, and it’s lockable with a key that’s still in the box. The lower part opens out to show two spring-loaded, fold-out document compartments — each has hinged wooden dividers inside. The catch keeps them open when you’ve got them down, and you can lower the top and the bottom independently. It’s stood on sturdy square tapering legs and is all one piece, no joins. It’s not something you see every day — feels like it’s been used in a proper office but still holds together well. Age and use mean it’s not perfect, but it’s solid. I’ve got a few photos — more if you want to see them. I think it’s rare, and it’s been in the same place for years. Just a bit of a curiosity I’ve kept around.
