Vintage Peugeot Aravis
Description
So I’m getting rid of this old Peugeot Aravis — from 1988. I’ve always had a soft spot for bikes like this, especially with that classic Reynolds 531 frame and the original bits I found. I actually pulled out an old brochure I came across (it’s in the photos), which reminded me how cool it would have looked back then.I went ahead and rebuilt it to match how it would’ve looked in 1988, and it’s all in great shape. Most of the parts — the headset, brakes, drivetrain, everything — are original spec. The frame is solid for its age, with a little patina that’s just part of its character. No extra cost for that.
It’s a big bike — I’m 6ft 1, and I’d say someone around 5ft 10 should be able to get on it comfortably. It’s actually quite stable and rides well. I think it’s got the Shimano second-gen SIS system (one click = one gear), and it shifts smoothly.
I’ve loved riding it over the years, but I’m just looking to make room for my next project. If you’ve got any questions about specific bits, I’m happy to go into detail. It’s sitting in my garage in Sleaford, Quarrington — easy to visit if you’re local. I’m not selling it for a lot, just to move it on. It’s not for everyone, but I genuinely think it’s special.
