I’ve had this Gumotex Swing 1 kayak for a few years now, and it’s honestly been one of my go-to boats for lakes and quiet rivers around the Shetland Islands. It’s an inflatable kayak with a closed cockpit, which keeps you drier and warmer—really handy when the wind’s picking up or the weather’s a bit chilly.

The cockpit has zippers at both ends, which is useful for quick access, and I’ve used the spray deck option a couple of times when it’s raining. The hull’s solid, and it handles gentle rapids fine—nothing wild, just the kind of water you’d find in a low-flow river or a slow-moving loch.

It weighs just 11.2kg, so it’s easy to carry between lakes or even past canal locks. I’ve done a few portages with it, and it’s not a stretch to haul it around. The seat is comfy, made from PE foam with a backrest, and the footrests are adjustable—perfect for different paddling styles.

The included tracking fin helps keep you on a straight line, and the push-push valves mean it inflates quickly. It’s also got a safety relief valve at the bottom, which is a nice touch. The whole thing packs down into a small bag—fits neatly in my van or car boot, so I can just pop it in and inflate it in minutes when I’m ready to go.

It’s made from Gumotex Nitrilon®—a mix of high-strength PES fibre with rubber layers. That means it’s tough, doesn’t crack in the sun, and holds up well over time. The materials are durable, and I’ve kept it well-maintained, so it’s still in excellent condition.

Dimensions: 316cm long, 87cm wide. Comes with the pump, paddle, and all the fittings. I’ve used it a lot over the years and it’s always been reliable.
