2009 Kawasaki Versys 650
Description
I’m parting with my 2009 Kawasaki Versys 650 — a bike I’ve been loving for over a decade. I bought it in 2021 with 40k miles, and even at 64k now, it’s still ticking over nicely. It’s not just a ride — it’s a project. I went through three stages of care:
First, basic maintenance — valves checked and tweaked to the top of tolerance, new plugs, air filter, coolant, brake fluid, and oil (with oil filter changes at key intervals).
Then, preventative stuff: new stick coils, clutch and throttle cables, steering head bearings, forks cleaned and re-oiled with new seals. Front and rear brake lines swapped to braided hoses, calipers stripped and resealed, new wheel bearings (front and rear), a fresh battery, and a ZVM-X Super Heavy Duty chain and sprocket at 54k. Also got new rear disc, all the bulbs (main, dip, indicators, number plate), and a downpipe joint gasket and clamp.
And then the accessories — heated grips, top box, centre stand, mirror extenders, headlight protector, radiator guard, fender extender, GB Racing engine guards, side stand big foot, hand guards, and a hugger.
I’ve taken it on solo trips to places like the North Cape in Norway — the northernmost point of mainland Europe — and the Dark Canyon in Turkey (650 miles east of Istanbul). Both were over 6,000 miles each, no issues, just me and the bike. I’ve done loads of cross-continental rides too. MOT runs until April 2026. I just fitted new brake pads and tyres for that Turkey trip.
It comes with two keys, panniers, and the top box. I’m selling it because the cost and the idea of getting older mean I can’t go on the two final rides I’d planned — Ushuaia, Argentina, and Prudoe Bay, Alaska.
No test rides — just a bike that’s been lived in, cared for, and ridden hard. If you’ve got a love for these bikes, or just want a solid, proven machine, it’s ready to go again.
It’s in Middleton-St-George, Darlington.
