Description

I’ve been holding onto these original engineering drawings from the Beyer Peacock steam locomotive factory in Gorton, Manchester — mostly from the 1870s to the 1950s. They’re not just sketches; they’re detailed, hand-drawn plans with precise measurements, signed by the original draughtsmen. Each one has a drawing number, title, date, and is marked with the workshop notes — some even show the kind of tools and parts used for on-site repairs.

The sheets vary in size, from about 77cm to over 100cm wide, and are mostly linen-backed, which means they’ve been handled over the years by engineers who actually worked in the workshops. A few have smudges and ink marks from the hands of the people who used them — that’s part of their story.

I found this collection while going through some old boxes at home, and I’m not sure how many people actually get to see something like this. It’s not just about the drawings — it’s about the craftsmanship, the attention to detail, and the way these engineers built the machines.

I’m in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, and I’m looking to part with them — not for a big buyer, but someone who’s genuinely interested in the history behind these steam locomotives. If you’re part of a steam club or know someone who works with vintage machinery, I’d love to connect. I’ve only got a few copies, and I think seeing them in person would show just how much effort went into making these machines.

(If you’re curious, I’m happy to send a few photos — just let me know.)
