Description

So, I’ve been living in this van for a few years now, and honestly, it’s been a proper joy. It’s not flashy, but it feels like a TARDIS inside—spacious, weirdly efficient, and somehow still manages to look like it belongs in a film set.

It’s a 2010 Vauxhall Vivaro, converted properly, and I’ve just done a proper overhaul this year: new gearbox, clutch, alternator, and battery (2024). The injectors were renewed too, at 110k miles—so it’s running smooth now. The van’s at 145k miles, and most of the big bits have been replaced, which is good news because old-school vans are just... solid.

I’ve got all-season tyres, proper insulation with Dodomat and fleece, scratch-proof and waterproof flooring. There’s a gas heater and cooker (both vented), and a 300W solar panel system that’s stealthy enough to work off-grid. Dimmable lights and USB ports too—space for a fridge is still available. There’s a 230V inverter (300W), so you can run basic appliances.

The bed is currently across the van, but it can be set up lengthways if you’re tall or prefer that layout. There’s a leisure battery (wiring to add a second would be easy), and the split charge is in place but not yet wired. Six weight-bearing points for hammocks or TRX—great for outdoor time. A reflective foil mirror in the rear window for privacy, and yes, it has a tailgate and a sliding side window.

It’s quiet, not flashy, and doesn’t look like a camper to most people. I’ve never had a break-in or anyone trying to take it, just because it doesn’t look like a work van. Fits under 2m height barriers and parks in most spaces without issues.

There are a couple of small scratches, nothing serious. It’s had two previous owners—first in the Thames Valley, then a private mechanic, and now me. I’m just putting it out there before I start second-guessing whether I really need it.

It’s sitting in drybrook, Forest of Dean. Price’s £5,400—worth it if you’re into off-grid living or just want a solid, reliable van.
