Description
This old oak coffer is a real gem – solid, sturdy, and full of character. It’s got two carved panel fronts with diamond and flower patterns, all wrapped in leafy scrollwork, and the top is a solid plank that hinges at the back. It sits on those classic bun feet, which give it a proper antique feel. The original iron lock plate is still there, though the key’s gone – probably not a big deal since it’s just a lock, not a door. Inside, the lining is old paper, which adds to the worn, lived-in look. I found it tucked away in my old family home in Lydbury-North, Shropshire, and thought it’d be a nice piece to share. It’s solidly built, no major issues, just the kind of wear you’d expect from something this old. Could easily be a blanket chest, a coffee table with storage, or just a striking piece in a hallway or living room. Late 18th to early 19th century, with a bit of later touches. Solid oak, original lock plate, key missing – all that. It’s not fancy, but it’s honest and full of history. I’ve had it in the house for years and only just decided to part with it. Worth a look if you’re into things with a bit of soul.
