Three Framed Whitby Photos by Frank Meadow Sutcliffe

I’ve had these three framed black-and-white photos sitting on my shelf for years — they’re reproductions of original images by Frank Meadow Sutcliffe, the famous Victorian photographer from Whitby. The set shows Whitby harbour and a snowy street, both very atmospheric. I found them through the Sutcliffe Gallery in the 1980s, and they were published with a licence from the Whitby Literary & Philosophical Society.

The prints are in great shape, and the frames have a bit of wear, which is totally normal for something this old. I’ve never really used them much — just a quiet little collection I’ve kept going. They’d look great on a bookshelf or by the window if you’re into coastal history or classic photography.

I’m moving to Clayton-Bradford, Bradford soon, so I’m getting rid of them. They’re worth a look if you’ve got a soft spot for Whitby or old-style photos. I’ve kept them in a drawer for years — they’re not flashy, but they’ve always felt like a piece of history. Price is £27, but that’s just a number — I’m just sharing them.
