William Langley original oil painting of Coopers Hill, Surrey
Description
So, I’ve been keeping this painting in my family home for years — it’s one of those pieces that just feels like it belongs in a real English countryside setting. It’s an original oil on canvas by William Langley (1852–1952), a Scottish artist known for his detailed and atmospheric landscape work. The piece is titled *A View from Coopers Hill, Surrey*, and it’s from around 1890–1895.The painting is huge — 42 inches tall by 62.5 inches wide — and it really captures that summer feel: sheep in the fields, ancient woodland stretching into the distance, and a big, peaceful lake in the background. It’s signed and inscribed on the back, which adds to its authenticity.
It’s framed in that original double-swept giltwood and gesso frame, which is quite elegant and period-correct. The frame has a few tiny touch-ups (mostly just around the edges), but nothing noticeable — more like a bit of aged charm than anything that’s damaged. The painting and frame are both in very good condition overall.
I bought it a long time ago and it’s been part of the home ever since. It’s not just decorative — it’s like a piece of history that makes you feel connected to the past.
It’s currently in llansanffraid, Ceredigion, and I’m happy to ship it anywhere. Artsonline handles the delivery — fully insured, tracked, and door-to-door. I’ve had it go to a few places before, and it always arrives safely.
I’m including a certificate of authenticity from Artsonline, and I’ll be happy to send photos if you’d like to see it up close. The price is £1,327.50 — I know it’s not cheap, but it’s been in my family for generations and feels like a real piece of heritage.
If you're interested, just let me know — I’m not looking to rush it, just happy to share it with someone who appreciates it the way I do.
