1999 VW Golf Cabriolet 2.0L Manual
Description
So, I’ve been meaning to get rid of this old golf cabriolet for a while now. Honestly, it’s just not practical anymore — we moved into a smaller place and frankly, it doesn’t fit. I’ve had it since 2021, and the previous owner was a proper VW/Audi mechanic, so there’s a decent pile of service records and paperwork — even the original 1999 sale receipt is still tucked away. It’s a 2.0L petrol, 5-speed manual, front-wheel drive — the Avantgarde version with leather seats, heated seats, and a CD player. It’s a real fun car to drive, especially on a quiet road or a sunny day. I still go on drives occasionally, just to keep it alive.
The MOT runs until August 2026, so it’s been properly looked after and is currently in good shape. I’ve had a few recent jobs done to keep it running smoothly:
- Aug 2025: Brake hoses replaced (both front and rear)
- May 2024: Full stainless steel exhaust
- Feb 2023: Clutch and linkage replaced
- Jan 2023: Rear wheel bearings
- July 2022: Rear brakes and shocks
Now, the downsides:
- The roof’s electronic system had a hydraulic leak — it won’t open or close on its own anymore. But I’ve learned how to do it manually, and it’s actually quicker and easier that way.
- There’s a bit of surface rust, which isn’t surprising for a 20+ year-old car — nothing structural, just some patchy spots.
- The leather seats are showing their age, like everything else — you’ll see that in the photos.
MOT report has a few minor advisories, but nothing serious. I’ve gone through it myself and don’t see any red flags.
If you’re interested or just want to chat, I’m happy to send over photos or arrange a quick test drive. It’s not a daily driver, but it’s a solid, nostalgic piece of kit with a real character. £900 — fair price, I think.
