Description

I’ve had this SCHWEGLER 1FF bat box for a while now, and honestly, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen one this well made. It’s brand new, never opened, and still in the original packaging. I bought it for a local garden project, but after thinking it through, I’ve decided to part with it.

Schwegler’s the go-to name in wildlife housing – think premium quality, built to last, and designed with real bat needs in mind. This one’s their top model for British bat species that like crevices. It’s made from their classic wood-concrete mix (Woodcrete), painted black, and hangs from a single galvanised steel loop. Comes with an aluminium nail – I’ve used that one on a live tree, and it’s way better than steel for not damaging the bark.

It’s 27cm wide, 43cm high, 14cm deep, and weighs 9kg – quite a solid piece. The bottom’s open, so droppings just fall out, which means no cleaning needed. There’s a big inspection flap too, which is handy for checking in. Inside, there’s a roughed wooden back panel – it helps regulate temperature, so bats can choose whether to feel warmer or cooler depending on the season.

It’s designed to fit just about anywhere – trees, walls, balconies, even garages. Only needs one nail or screw to attach, which makes it easy to fit on a rental property or a light wall. The rear has a radial recess, so it sits steady on tree trunks or masts. And with four support points, it’s stable no matter where you hang it.

I’ve used it in a few places around the area, and it’s been working well. It’s also been used by some environmental groups, which makes sense – it’s just that solid.

I’m only offering it for collection, from edenbridge, Sevenoaks. It’s in a large box with dust sheets, so it’s protected during moving. I know a few sites sell this model for £122–135 net, so I’m happy with how much I’m charging. It’s not just a box – it’s a real piece of nature-friendly gear.

This one’s going to a new home, and I hope it finds the right spot. If you’re into bats or just want a solid, well-made outdoor item, this might be worth a look.
