1971 Austin Kimberley X6
Description
So, I’ve got this 1971 Austin Kimberley X6 sitting in my garage in Rhosneigr, Isle of Anglesey — it’s one of those cars that just feels like it should be on a classic car show poster. It’s a bit of a rarity, actually. Not many of these were made, and I believe this might be the only one in the UK — possibly even Europe. It was built in Australia in '71, first registered as RFV522, and had only two owners back home. The second owner, Mr E Saint, moved to the UK in '83 and brought it over — he kept it registered here with the current plates, and it’s been in UK hands since then. It’s had three more owners since, and has always been a regular at shows.
The car’s a bit of a showstopper — solid brown body with cream interior, a clean respray done in '98 that still looks good. The chrome is shiny, the roof is fresh, and those Rostyle wheels match the Michelin whitewalls. I still have the Aussie plates tucked under the UK ones — super handy if you’re at a show and want to show off its roots.
It’s a front-wheel-drive saloon, so the cabin is roomy and airy — not cramped at all. Seats are solid, no tears, headlining’s tight. The dash is mostly original, just swapped out the radio for a modern cassette unit.
I’ve got the full file: receipts from Australia, V5C, old registration docs, some MOTs, club letters, photos, import paperwork, and a spare key. Honestly, it’s a bit of a treasure — not just for the car, but for the story behind it.
It shares parts with the Wolseley Six — doors, suspension, engine — so if you're thinking of fixing it up, you probably won’t run into any major parts headaches.
I’m not selling it for a lot of money — it’s actually only £0.90. I know that sounds low, but it’s just how it is. I’m keeping it in the garage, not driving it much, and honestly, I just wanted to find someone who’d appreciate it.
If you’ve ever been to a classic car show and felt like you were standing next to a piece of history, this one’s for you. I’ll be happy to chat about it if you’re interested — or just show it off at the next one.
No warranty, no guarantees — it’s just a car with a story. But if you’ve got a passion for rare British-Australian classics, this one might just hit home.
