Roland 100m D set, 181 keyboard and original box
Description
My dad’s old Roland 100m D set – the one that used to sit on the shelf in the studio back in the day. It’s a real classic, one of those modular synths that basically defined a generation of electronic music. I’ve been using it a bit over the years, mostly for demos and just messing around with sounds, and it’s actually been sitting in a quiet corner of my studio in Wallsend, North Tyneside.Last year I had it fully cleaned and serviced by James Walker – he’s one of the best synth techs in the UK – and it’s now back to life, running like a dream. The 181 keyboard is original, all the knobs and patch points work, and the box is still in great shape. It’s been used by a lot of big names over the years, from Throbbing Gristle to Hans Zimmer, so it’s got some serious pedigree.
I’ve kept it mostly untouched, just a few tweaks here and there. It’s not flashy, but it does what it’s supposed to – deep, warm tones, lots of character. It’s not just a collector’s item anymore; it’s a real tool I’ve been using for my own projects.
I’m not selling it for a lot – it’s just something I’ve had for a long time and now I’m passing it on. If you’re into analog gear or just love the feel of old synths, it’s a solid piece to have around.
(Price is £5,175 – but I’m not going to advertise that here, just thought I’d mention it in case you’re wondering.)
