So I’ve had this 2005 VW Golf MK5 1.9 TDI for a few years now, and it’s honestly been one of the most reliable cars I’ve ever owned. It’s a manual, five-door hatchback, 1896cc, diesel – the kind of car that just gets on with life without fuss.

I’ve kept it well looked after, and last month I did a full service. Since then, I’ve had a few things done to keep it running smooth: timing belt replaced, glow plugs fitted, new CV joint, both wheel bearings sorted, new tie rod, and a full alignment with brand new 18” rims. Also got a CarPlay upgrade – that’s been a game-changer for me.

It’s been on the road for about 18,000 miles, all quiet and steady, and I’ve had it checked recently – MOT is booked, so it’s all good. The 1.9 TDI engine is a solid one – not flashy, but gets the job done, especially for a daily driver or someone looking for something practical and low-maintenance.
