Duck Egg Blue Bobbin Ginger Snap aged 7 to 11
Description
This one’s a bit of a legend in my family – the Duck Egg Blue Bobbin Ginger Snap. I’ve only ridden it a few times, mostly when I was a kid, so it’s still in pretty good shape. There’s a small scuff on the chain guard, but that’s visible in the photos and it doesn’t affect how it rides at all. It’s a classic 24-inch bike made for kids and teens aged 7 to 11, and it’s been hand-built in small batches. The paint’s shiny and clean, the wicker basket with the Bobbin head badge is still bright, and the cream tyres look fresh. The brakes have easy reach with those classic brown grips, and the silver bell rings just right. The mudguards and chaincase match the colour perfectly, and the vegan leather saddle is soft and comfy.
I’ve got 7 Shimano gears – useful for climbing hills – and a kickstand that makes parking easy. I’ve kept it well maintained over the years, so it’s still reliable and fun to ride. It’s not flashy, but it’s got character and a real feel of being a proper kids’ bike from the 80s/90s.
It’s currently sitting in my garage at Plockton, Station Road, and I’m letting it go because I’ve moved on to a different kind of cycling – more road, less hills. Still, I’m happy to share it with someone who’ll appreciate its charm. It’s worth a look if you’re into classic bikes or just want a solid, nostalgic ride.
(Price is £179.10 – I’ll keep it low because I’m not selling it to anyone who’s just looking for a bargain, more for someone who values what it really is.)
