Description

So, I’ve got this 1951 James Comet sitting in my garage in Newtonmore, Highland — just a quiet little bike, not much to say about it beyond what’s on paper. It’s registered OAF 986 and has a V5, which I’ve kept clean and safe. I found it at a local auction and it’s been sitting quietly for a while, mostly just gathering dust (or maybe just getting better at being still).

The auction is on September 5th, 2025, at 11:00am — the one at Manor Park Classics, which I’ve actually visited before. They’ve got a solid setup, with a 30,000 sq ft place and all the usual perks like free storage before the sale, extended viewing days, and even driving videos. I didn’t go in expecting to buy anything, but I figured if I’m going to have a classic bike, it’s better to see it properly before any decisions.

I know it’s not going to come with any guarantees — no one’s giving a warranty on age, condition, or authenticity here. The estimate is around £1,200–£1,500, and the buyer’s premium is 15% with a minimum of £50 plus VAT. That said, I’m not selling it because I want to — more like I’ve got it and I don’t need it anymore. It’s been sitting, and honestly, it’s just not something I’ve used in years.

If you’re thinking about looking at it, I’d say go ahead and check it out in person. There are open viewing days before the auction, and you can book a slot if you’re not around on those days. The bike’s not roadworthy as it stands — it’s been a bit of a long-term keeper — but it’s still a proper piece of history.

I’ve got it in Newtonmore, Highland, and I’m happy to chat if you want to see it. Just don’t expect it to start up on the first try — it’s more about the story than the speed.

(Price is £1,350, but I won’t say that out loud unless you ask.)
