AKAI SEPARATES SYSTEM
Description
I’m parting with my old Akai separates system — it’s been in the family for years and I’ve used it a lot over the years. The CS-M01 stereo cassette deck is in very good condition, tested and works perfectly. Fast forward, reverse, play, and record all function — I’ve even used it with ferric and chrome tapes, and the sound’s pretty solid for the era. It has Dolby B, a tape counter, and VU meters with side lighting, which is nice to see when you’re working with tapes. The AT-K02L FM/AM stereo tuner is also included — made in Japan, silver finish, works great. It handles both FM and AM, has stereo outputs, and the tuning scale lights up. It comes with an internal AM aerial, so you just need an external FM one.
Then there’s the AM-U01 amplifier — vintage, clean sound, not flashy. It’s got 20 watts per channel into 8 ohms, and the VU meters light up properly. I’ve always liked how it presents sound — balanced, not boosted in any one area, which means it doesn’t make music sound artificial.
The whole setup fits in a rack with the original stands. The bass unit is a Goodmans XB 25 with infinite baffle design and 8-inch drivers — solid for a vintage unit. It handles up to 80 watts and covers 55Hz to 22kHz.
It’s all together in one system — the kind of gear I used to enjoy setting up and playing with. I’ve kept it well maintained, and it’s been used mostly for listening and occasional tape projects. It’s not super rare, but it’s got a nice character. Price is £108 — not a lot, but I’ve been using it for years and it’s time to move on. Located in avoch, Highland.
