Got this old wooden shelf unit from my place in hetton-le-hole, Sunderland – it’s been in the family for years and I’m finally getting rid of it. It’s a simple shabby chic style with a distressed white paint and a dark wood top, the kind of thing that just fits in with a bit of character. There are two fixed shelves and a handy top drawer, so it’s not just for looking pretty – it actually holds books, mugs, or anything you want to keep close at hand. The sides have those little turned columns that give it a warm, vintage feel. It’s not perfect – there’s a bit of wear, like it’s been lived with – but that’s part of what makes it special.
