Description

So, I’m parting ways with my trusty 1994 Toyota Hiace campervan — one that’s been a real workhorse for us over the years. It’s not flashy, but it’s lived a full life and still runs like a dream. Passed its MOT recently, so it’s got another year of good going on.

It’s got all the basics: sleeps four, seats up to seven, and you can switch it up — whether you want a booth setup or a more traditional coach style. The stereo’s a Sony with Apple CarPlay, so no more fiddling with old cassette players. Plenty of storage space too, and the kitchen back end has a sink and water pump — useful for weekend getaways.

It’s a Japanese Nippon conversion, imported from Japan, and has done 155,000km (about 96,000 miles) — still runs smooth, especially with the brand new clutch we fitted in June. The diesel engine is solid, and it’s been mostly reliable, even through the years.

It does have a few quirks: it’s from 1994, so it’s a bit old — there’s some rust and a small hole on the casing (you can see it in the photo), and the rear windscreen squirter doesn’t work. We’ve got a replacement boot latch that works, but it’s a bit fiddly — has to close a couple of times to stay shut.

Still, it’s been our home on the road for years. It’s got solar panels and an awning tent, so we’ve been able to go off-grid a few times. Honestly, it’s a solid, no-nonsense van that just keeps doing what it does best.

If you’re thinking of a reliable, practical campervan with a bit of character — and you don’t mind a few little things being a bit worn — this might just be your kind of ride.

It’s in Wickford, Basildon. Price is £5,400 — if you’re interested, I’ll chat.
