Description

So, I’ve just moved house and decided to part with this old van – it’s been a real project over the years. The 2001 VW Transporter 800 Special TD SWB is basically a converted campervan with a lot of love put into it. It’s all newly painted inside and out, which I did with my dad – we spent a fair bit of time turning it from a mess into something actually usable.

It’s got a rock ‘n’ roll bed installed (no seatbelts in the back, just three in the front – that’s something I’ve never been too concerned about), and the front chairs rotate so you can squeeze extra people in. The bed’s been used once, the awning’s been used twice – both are still solid. There’s a self-inflating mattress for the bed, a fixed fridge, electric hookup, and a diesel heater (though I’ve never actually used it – no leisure battery installed, so it’s mostly for when I’m near a plug).

There are spotlights in the roof – could be useful with a leisure battery if you ever want to go off-grid. The thermal window covers are brand new and have only been used a few times. I’ve had it in and out of the van a few times, mostly for festivals and weekend trips.

I’ve put around £2K into upgrades – mostly cabin work, cupboards, and the interior. It’s not perfect for a 20-year-old van, but it’s been well looked after. I’d have liked to go for £5995, but with the move, I’m happy to settle on £4995 – it’s been a decent price at the Harewood VW festival, and I know it’s a fair bit.

Roxy, by the way – that’s the name of the van. She’s got a bit of character, and I’d love to see her go on some summer camping or festival trips. If you’re thinking of using her for a bit of mobile living or just some fun road trips, she’s ready to roll.
