Antique Chromolithograph of Hôtel Boulevard Exelmans, Paris
Description
I’ve had this print for years and just decided to part with it. It’s a detailed chromolithograph from the late 1800s showing the ornate ironwork and painted ceiling of the Hôtel Boulevard Exelmans in Paris. The design was done by Edm. Guillaume and Ouri, and it was printed by Imp. Lemercier & Cie — one of the top lithography shops in old Paris, known for their elegant architectural prints. It’s from France, likely around 1870–1890, and the paper is quite fine. The colours are bright, though there’s a bit of age-related fading and some light marks, which you can see up close. The frame is simple wood with glazing, and it’s already framed so it’s ready to hang. A bit of wear on the frame, just like you’d expect from something that’s been around for decades.
I’ve kept it in a stable place at home for years, mostly just admired it — it’s one of those pieces that makes you feel like you’re stepping into a bygone era of design. I’m not looking for much, just someone who appreciates vintage prints or finds value in architectural art. It’s not fancy or expensive, just a solid, well-made piece from a bygone age.
It’s from Newark, Newark on Trent — I’ve been living there for a few years now, so it’s just a local thing. I’ve priced it at £36, which I think is fair given how it’s held up over time. If you’re into old prints or just like the kind of design that makes a room feel more lived-in, this one might resonate.
