I’ve had this 2017 BMW 1 Series 118i Sport for a few years now and honestly, it’s one of the best little cars I’ve ever driven. Only two owners from new, so it’s been kept well and hasn’t seen much wear. The 1.5-litre petrol engine gives you plenty of punch without being too thirsty—up to 56 mpg on the highway, which is decent for a hatchback.

It’s in the Sport trim, which means it’s got a bit more character than the base model. Inside, there’s climate control, rear parking assist, and a decent set of features like Bluetooth hands-free, USB charging, and voice-controlled calls. The steering and ride feel sharp, and it gets from 0 to 62 in just 8.7 seconds—pretty solid for a compact car.

The boot’s big enough for a weekend trip or a couple of shopping bags, and the safety bits like ESP and seat pretensioners are all there. I’ve driven it in all sorts of weather and it holds up well.
