Milab VIP-60 Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone
Description
I’ve had this Milab VIP-60 for a couple of years now, and honestly, it’s one of those mics that just feels right. It’s a modern update of the legendary VIP-50, but without losing that classic warmth and smoothness. The company spent years refining it—tested over 18 months with engineers from Sweden, Germany, the UK, and the US—so it’s not just a copy, it’s a thoughtful evolution. The self-noise is way down compared to the original, which is a big deal if you're recording in quieter spaces or doing long takes. But it still has that ribbon-like tone—open, spacious, natural, and just a little sparkly in the highs. I’ve only used it a few times, mostly for vocal work, and it always sounds clean and flattering without making things sound too bright or artificial.
A few years ago, Sound on Sound called it “one of those mics that just seems to tune out the bad qualities of a source, without resorting to cheap tricks.” That line still sticks with me. It’s not flashy, but it does what it’s supposed to—capture the soul of a performance without overdoing it.
It’s in great shape, no dents or damage, and it’s just been sitting in a drawer, ready to go. I’m moving to Winkleigh, Torridge District, so I’m parting with it. It’s a solid piece, and if you’re into mics with character and a bit of history, this one’s worth a look.
(Price is £1,219.50 — just letting you know, not a big deal, just a fact.)
