ANTIQUE FRENCH ART DECO MIRROR 37x31cm
Description
Got this at a brocante in Marquion, in the Nord region, back in the day – it’s been in my cloakroom for years, and honestly, I’ve finally decided to part with it. It’s a solid 1930s French mirror with a hardwood frame, gilded trim, and that classic bevelled edge. The wood has a nice patina – a bit worn, some minor chips, but still solid and not warped. I think it’s been stained and varnished over the years, which gives it that soft shimmer, especially around the edges. The mirror itself is original, with what looks like mercury glass (it passes the coin reflection test – I’ve checked it), and the glass is a bit foxed and worn, but still holds a good reflection. It’s a little loose in the frame, but it’s secure enough to hang either vertically or horizontally. There’s a hanging loop, so it’ll hang up nicely.
Backside has some pencil markings that I can’t read – just a faint note, probably from the original owner. The visible mirror plate is about 29.5 x 23.5 cm, the full frame is 37 x 31 cm, and it’s about 1.5 cm thick. Weighs in at around 1.6 kg – quite heavy for something this size, which I suppose makes sense with the wood and gilding.
I’m selling it because I’ve been collecting vintage French items for years and now I’ve got no space left. It’s not perfect – it’s a little shabby, has foxing, and the wood’s worn – but it’s still solid, sound, and shows real age. I’ll post it for £7.99 if you pay by bank transfer (cash on collection or bank transfer only – no PayPal, cards, or couriers).
It’s going to golcar, Kirklees – just a quick drop from my place. If you’re interested, just take a look at the photos – there’s no way to describe it without seeing it.
