Renault Clio 2006 hatchback, 3 doors, manual
Description
Got this old Clio back in 2006 – it was actually a solid driver when I first got it, pulled like a train, gearbox was smooth, no clutch issues. It’s a MK3 diesel, 1461cc, three doors, manual – the kind of car that gets you where you need to go without much fuss. But it’s been sitting in my drive in Lochgilphead for a few years now, and I’m moving house, so it’s not going anywhere. I’ve tried to keep it going, even put in new glow plugs, and it did start up – but once it’s running, it chugs at idle and when you give it a bit of throttle, it smokes like a chimney and then just dies. The injectors are probably blocked or rusted, and the engine frame has holes – I’ve seen it, and I know it could be welded, but it’s probably not worth the effort.
The clutch fluid has a leak from the bell housing, but the clutch still works fine – I didn’t need to top it up even when I drove it to the MOT station and back. The battery’s dead, wheels are from an older MK2 Clio, so they’re about an inch lower than the rest – not a big deal, just something to note. Tyres are long gone, but I’m sure they can be pumped up for a tow. Doors and wings are still in decent shape, interior’s cleanable, not terrible.
I’ve got the V5C logbook, so it’s not a mystery. I just don’t have the time, space, or interest to fix it anymore. It’s not broken in a way that’s dangerous, just not something I want to maintain. If you're looking for a donor car with parts, or just want to take a look at a solid old car with a bit of character, I can’t imagine it being better than this. I’ll keep it in the drive until I move, then it’s gone.
It’s £180 if you're interested – not a lot, but it’s what I’ve got to give.
