18th Century Oak Commode Chest of Drawers
Description
So, I’ve had this 18th century oak commode chest of drawers in my house for years — it’s one of those pieces that just feels right in a room, like it was meant to be there. It’s a two-over-three style, solid heavy oak, all original details still visible, and the drawers slide smoothly — no sticking, no issues at all. It’s been painted black over the years, and the original handles have been replaced with new ones, so it looks clean and polished. No drawer keys, though — that’s just how it is. I’ve used it quite a bit, so there are some signs of wear, like a few decorative wood bits missing here and there, and it’s not perfectly pristine by any means. But honestly, it’s still in great shape — very solid, very heavy, and holds a lot of storage.
Dimensions are H 106 cm, W 50 cm, L 110 cm — quite a large piece, so it’s best for bigger rooms or period homes. I’m based in Knareborough, North Yorkshire, and it’s been in my family home for a while. I’ve taken a lot of photos — you should definitely check them out to see the actual condition.
It’s not perfect, but it’s not something you’d find in a showroom. It’s lived-in, has character, and still works beautifully. If you’re looking for something with real history and a bit of soul, this might be it.
If you’re interested, feel free to call me — I’m happy to chat or arrange a viewing. I’ve got a few other things I’ve been holding onto too, so if you like this one, you might like a few of the others as well.
P.S. The price is £571.50 — just a note, not a selling point. I’d rather you know that upfront.
