I’ve had this 2014 Skoda Octavia TDI Elegance for a few years now, and it’s been one of the most reliable cars I’ve ever owned. It’s a solid 4x4 estate with a 2.0-litre diesel engine — not flashy, but plenty of punch, gets you from zero to 60 in about 8.4 seconds if you’re feeling adventurous.

The Elegance trim means it’s comfortable inside, with climate control, rear parking sensors, and Bluetooth — which is handy for keeping the phone in reach without pulling out the glove box. I use it every week for family trips and weekend drives, and the boot space is a real plus, especially when we’ve got kids and a full load of stuff.

It’s been well looked after, no major repairs, and I’ve kept it on a regular service schedule. The insurance group is low, which means it’s not expensive to run — that’s a big plus.
