Description

Got this old Dawes Super Galaxy sitting in my garage in Criccieth, Gwynedd — it’s a real gem, and I’ve been using it regularly for years. Built with Reynolds 853 tubing, which is some of the strongest and lightest steel ever made. This was one of the last steel bikes Dawes made before they switched to aluminium — honestly, I’ve never seen anything that rides as smooth or feels as solid as this.

It’s a 53cm frame, top tube’s about 50–53cm, and the setup’s clean and ready to go. I’ve fully stripped it down — every part cleaned, checked, and replaced where needed. New bar tape (2010–2015), cassette, chain, bearings, and all the greasing done. It’s got Shimano Tiagra 9-speed shifters (like new) and the Deore LX gearset — the original Super Galaxy combo, which is a bit rare these days.

Brakes are Onyx, headset is Tange, stem is Kalin, wheels are 36-spoke aluminium, and the tyres are Schwalbe Marathon Touring — 32-622. Saddle’s a Brooks leather one, which I’ve kept for comfort. I’ve got a front pannier rack too — can send that if you’re interested in a full touring setup.

It’s been serviced and ridden loads — not just a display piece, it’s actually been on the road. I’ve tested every bike I list, and this one’s been ridden for thousands of miles with no issues.
